Mumbai's rains run roughly June to September, and heavy rain means waterlogged lanes, short walks and a lot of wet dog. Ask a host what the walk routine looks like when it rains for days: is there a covered area or a balcony your dog can use, and how do they dry your dog and check paws and coat afterwards? It's also worth asking your vet whether your dog's leptospirosis vaccine is up to date before the rains. The disease spreads through floodwater, so it's one more reason to keep walks out of it.
Heat and humidity, nearly all year
Mumbai is rarely dry. Warm, humid weather makes it harder for dogs to cool down, and harder still for thick-coated or flat-faced breeds.
